59th All India Police Games concludes | JKP wins 10 medals as CRPF shines with 6 trophies | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, March 06: Adding four more medals to their kitty on the concluding day today, hosts Jammu and Kashmir made it a 10-medal tally in the 59th All India Police Games Wrestling Cluster at Gulshan Ground, here this evening. The medal tally included two gold, three silver and five bronze won by the boxers and wrestlers. Roshan Sharma (Greco Roman, 84 kg) and Rahul Sharma won gold in wrestling and boxing respectively while three silver medals came through Bania Min (wrestling free style, 84 kg), Sunil Sharma (boxing, 60 kg) and Nita (boxing, plus 81 kg). Other five bronze medals were secured by boxers, Jagvinder Singh (75 kg), Parveen Manhas (45-48 kg), Simmi Sharma (51 kg), Shahnaz Akhter (64 kg) and Anju Bala (81 kg). However, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) emerged as most successfully team with six titles to their credit. Except for in boxing, CRPF men made their presence felt in all the events in this six-day event that came to an end today. In Wrestling (Greco Roman) CRPF won championship trophy, while in Free Style, the wresters had to contain with a runners-up title. Besides, Weightlifting men and women titles, CRPF also shared runners-up trophy with Haryana in Judo and bagged hardliner title in Gymnastics. The Border Security Force (BSF) too did well taking home four titles. While in gymnastics, BSF retained the overall trophy, in wrestling men and women the force remained runners-up. The men’s boxing title also went to BSF. For his outstanding performance, Rohit Jaswal of BSF was adjudged best gymnasts of the games. As many as 1550 athletes, including 219 women players represented 26 state police and five Central forces in this wrestling cluster of All India Police Games.
J&K boxer Rahul excels
Beating a most experienced and well decorated opponent from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in boxing, SPO Rahul Sharma made host J&K Police proud of his achievement. Rahul was pitted against an Olympian and Gazetted Officer of the CISF in the final bout that played today at Gymnasium Hall of the University of Jammu. The bout attracted many a spectators, who, however were not depressed by young boxer. Rahul not only won gold for J&K Police but also attracted the attention of senior officers and coaches of Central forces, including CISF. It is expected that Rahul, who is just SPO with J&K Police, may get a break in at the international level.
Forces play great role in country’s sports: CM
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, who was chief guest in the valedictory function of the All India Police Games said that the state police and other Central forces have played a great role country’s achievements in sports at the international level. He said, “Besides doing their duties of maintaining law and order, these athletes from forces have made the country proud by excelling at the recently held Asian and Commonwealth Games.” Chief Minister appreciated the Jammu and Kashmir Police for successfully hosting the big event that held under the guidance of All India Police Sports Control Board. Earlier, Director General of J&K Police, Kuldeep Khoda welcomed the distinguished gathering while organizing secretary and Additional Director General of J&K Police, K Rajendra presented vote of thanks.
