Dr Jitendra delivers diabetes update lecture | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 6: At a special CME Update programme for Diabetologists, specialist physicians and MD scholars held here today, a Guest faculty lecture was delivered by Dr Jitendra Singh, nationally renowned Diabetologist, Professor, author and National Diabetes Executive Member of RSSDI, National Board Member of "Diabetes India" as well as National Joint Secretary of "Diabetes in Pregnancy India"(DIPSI). Dr Jitendra Singh made a lucid informative power point presentation titled "Diabetes and hypertension" at the scientific session jointly chaired by Dr S.K.Gupta HOD Neurology and Dr Mohan Lal HOD Cardiology GMC. Spelling out essential considerations while treating high blood pressure in Diabetics,Dr. Jitendra Singh said there were two main priorities a) to keep the blood pressure as low as possible or else along with Diabetes it constitutes double assault on heart,kidneys and other organs and b) to choose an antihypertensive drug which simultaneously has a beneficial role in diabetes as well.While in uncomplicated Diabetes,the recommended levels of blood pressure ought to be around 130/80 mm Hg,in presence of diabetic effect on kidneys the levels ought to be around 120/70-80,said Dr Singh. Dr Singh said though high blood sugar and high blood pressure together comprised a dangerous combination but keeping the two under tight control ensured normal quality of life. The lecture was followed by a lively interactive question-answer session. The programme was organised by Messrs USV Ltd,a Multi Nationa Company with high stakes in anti-diabetic drugs.
