J&K Bank loses to Forest XI in tie-breaker | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, March 06: Failing to bring in any result in the stipulated time, playing with two Nigerians, the professional side of Jammu and Kashmir Bank today lost the title clash to equally good, J&K Forest in the Ist Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament played at GGM Science College ground, here. Playing a goalless draw, both sides entered the field with their penalty shooters to decide the fate of the final in tie-breaker. As usual, Bank had an upper hand considering its strength in skipper-goalkeeper, Vikramjeet Singh. However, this time, J&K Forest turned the tables and proved that they too have strengths to create a difference in penalties. Earlier, one hit to the goal post from each side leveled the score at 4-4 after five penalties. Later, Forest’s change in goal-keeper brought fruitful results and the side emerged winner 6-5. From Forest XI, Shahnawaz, Rizwan Shafi, Shahid Mushtaw, Aashiq Mushtaq, Mansoor Ahmed and Waseem were successful while Intikhab Alam, Adil Qadir, Sheikh Rizwan, Martin and Aman Bahadur Thapa converted their penalties into goal. The final was officiated by Nazir Ahmed, Muzaffar Ahmed, Rakesh Kumar and Stephen Moon. In the final and prize distribution function, president Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes. This championship was organised by All J&K Indira Gandhi People’s Association under the supervision of Narinder Gupta.
Flood Lights in a week: Soz
Member Parliament and president Pradesh Congress Committee, Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has promised to get the flood lights for GGM Science College ground within a week’s time. “I have made a promise with the football lovers and the organizers of the Ist Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup and I stand by my words. I will get the flood lights for you (footballers) by either approaching the Sports Minister, R S Chib or arranging funds of my own,” said Soz speaking to the gathering.
Nigerians back in Bank
Two Nigerian, who had returned to their places a year back, have returned to the J&K Bank fold. While defender, Martin has made a re-entry into the Bank team by getting his contract renewed, other forward in the team, Bashiru has replaced Badru K Ibrahim. However, the presence of two foreigners in the J&K Bank could not make any difference and the final against J&K Forest ended in a goalless draw.
Dejected Bank team
Winning or losing is part of the game, especially when the match is decided in tie-breaker. It is always a 50-50 game, but the attitude of J&K Bank was quite contrary. Defeat was not acceptable to the side and soon after realizing that there is a clear defeat ahead in tie-breaker, the bank coach and former forward hit the chair he was sitting on, thus taught a wrong lesson to his team. One must keep his nerves controlled when guiding a top professional side of the state.
