Youth, fiancee among 4 killed in car-tipper collision | The three killed girls were Parade women college students | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 7: The moments of happiness were today turned into sadness when an army jawan, his fiancee and the latter's two friends were killed in a head-on collision of their car with a tipper at Dayaran, about 15 km from here on the lower Akhnoor road. The tragedy struck at about 11.30 am. There were a total of four persons, including the jawan and three girls, in the car and all of them were killed, police sources said. The dead were identified as sepoy Dalip Singh, son of Avtar Singh of Gurha Manasa, his fiancee Reeta Devi (19), daughter of Roop Singh of Shamachak, Anu (19), daughter of Vikram Singh - a PDP leader - of Shamachak and Rajni (20), daughter of Balwant Singh of Bawe-da-Talab. All the three girls were BA part-I students of Parade women college, the sources added. Dalip, who had come home on leave two days back, was driving his Maruti car (JK02AG/7889). Sources said while exchanging pleasantries with Reeta and her two friends, he tried to overtake a vehicle at Dayaran. While he attempted to overtake the vehicle, his car collided head-on with a tipper (8987/JK02H) which was coming from the oppisite side, the sources added. The three girls were killed on the spot. Dalip, however, s uccumbed to his injuries at the GMC hospital here. Originally a jawan of 2 JAK Li, he was at present undergoing a training course at Udhampur. Sources said he was going to drop Reeta and the other two girls at their friend's house at Marjali near Dayaran. After post-mortem, the bodies were handed over to their family members for last rites. The Kanhachak police had seized the tipper and launched a manhunt to apprehend the tipper driver, who was absconding. The vehicular traffic remained disrupted on the road for about an hour after the incident. |
