Interlocutors continue to woo separatists | | | Early Times Report Jammu,March 8 :- new Delhi’s nominated interlocutors on Jammu Kashmir seem determined to involve the separatists in the dialogue process.
Official sources said that invitations were sent to the separatist leaders with the intention of seeking their views to help government of India initiate effective means to settle the issue. The separatists have till date refused to meet the interlocutors. While the hardliners, headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, turned down the offer for dialogue on the plea that they would not meet the interlocuters or the Government till their main demands were conceded ,the moderates among the separatists have been waiting for formal invitation for talks.
Hardliners demand withdrawal of troops, repeal of the AFSPA and release of all the detainees before they could participate in the process of dialogue. Sources said that the interlocutors were trying to prepare a final report which would be a via media among various options given by the separatists and the mainstream political parties. At present the interlocutors are examining three ideas. The idea of autonomy given by the National Conference, self-rule of the PDP and achievable nationhood status given by Chief of Peoples Conference, Sajjad Lone.
In fact Lone had been suggested by Prime Minister,Manmohan Singh, during their meeting about five years ago,to prepare a document on some viable solution to the Kashmir.
While the National Conference leadership believes that its document on autonomy was the most viable solution to the problem as it was within the ambit of the constitution of India, the PDP leadership is of the view that its self-rule concept and not autonomy plan addressed both the internal and external dimensions of the Kashmir issue.
Reports said that some political leaders and academicians, known to be close to the Kashmiri separatists, are being engaged to persuade the separatists to accept for invitation from the interlocutors for talks.(
