| National Sport Climbing Competition | | J&K climbers return with haul of three medals including gold | | JAMMU | NOV 12 In a brilliant display of performance, J&K climbers won three medals in Girls category in the National Sport Climbing Competition held at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi. Harjot Kour won Silver and a Bronze in Lead and Speed climbing while Shivani Raj Kaith clinched Silver in Speed climbing. Earlier in the semi-final, Harjot, a Silver medallist in the last nationals, was tied at the first place along with Namita Samant of west zone. But, in the final, a hasty move cost her the gold and she had to remain content with a silver medal and a cash prize of Rs.3000/-. However, Shivani defeated Harjot in semi-final of Speed competition by a hundredth of a second to set up a title clash with Anjali Sen of East Zone. But, unfortunately, in the final, she lost the gold by a fraction of second to grab only the Silver along with prize money of Rs.1500. on the other hand Harjot beat the other losing semi-finalist to win Bronze and prize money of Rs.1000/-. Other participants from J&K, including Shivati Koul and Rohini Chib also gave a good account of their performances in the Women category. Shivati Koul, the North Zone speed-climbing champion lost in the quarterfinals by a narrow margin through the hands of National champion. Similarly, Rohini Chib also performed well to secure 8th place in lead climbing in Women category. Overall, it was an excellent performance by the nine member state team with the two climbers claiming three medals and three other climbers reaching the quarterfinal stage. Meanwhile, Anil Choudhary, Principal MNDP School, R S Pura has congratulated Both Harjot and Shivani for bringing laurels to the school and the state.
