| Extension lecture on environment organised | | | Early Times Report
Jammu , March 8
An extension lecture on “Biodiversity and Environment’’ was organised by Environment Unit of MIER College of Education. Om Prakash Sharma, Conservator of Forests, Working Plan Circle was the resource person on this occasion. He delivered thought provoking lecture which was attended by all the students of the college.
Dr. Renu Gupta, Director, MIER and Principal, MIER College of Education, Dr. Adit Gupta, Joint Director MIER & Vice Principal, MIER College of Education, Dr. D. R. Kapoor, HOD Research Wing, Dr. K. C. Dubey, Shashi Kaul, Angela Gadroo were among the guests who graced this occasion with their presence.
In the welcome address, Dr. Adit Gupta introduced O.P.Sharma, as an environmentalist who has achieved high laurels in his area and contributed a lot in promoting forestry as an area of study. Having more than 36 books to his credit, he is the only forester to win the Sahitya Academy Award and has coined more than 3000 words in the field of forestry.
O.P.Sharma, while making his deliberations said that Biodiversity is the backbone of our system and comprises of a mindboggling variety of flora and fauna which needs to be respected and preserved for future generations. He gave an insightful knowledge in to the various local species of plants having great medicinal value and are associated with the faith and cultures of local people of different regions.
A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Monika Bajaj, Incharge Environment Unit. Meenakshi compered the programme with enthusiasm .
