Women folk should come forward for demanding their legitimate rights: Naheed Soz | JKWDC celebrates Women’s Day | | Early Times Report JAMMU: KEEPING their tradition of celebrating International Women’s Day, the Jammu and Kashmir State Women’s Development Corporation sponsored by National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) organized a cultural programme at Govt. College for Women, Gandhi Nagar. Besides college students, SHG members, women from all walks of life also witnessed the function. Almost all the members from various self help groups from all the areas of J & K State participated in this function. The function began with traditional lighting of lamp by the chief guest Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo, Guest of Honour Ajaz Ahamad Khan, Minister for Haj and Aquaf, Fisheries, Law and Parlimentry affairs, social welfare, Rural Dev.Dept, Hospitility and Protocol and Animal Husbandry and Khem Lata Wakhloo, Chairperson, J&K State Social Welfare Board. Earlier in her welcome address, Dr. Naheed Soz, Managing Director, J&K State Women’s Development Corporation highlighted various activities and achievements of women’s Development Corporation which has immensely contributed towards the empowerment of the women. She said that during the financial year 2010-11 more than 18 crores were disbursed amongst 2400 beneficiaries as Loan under various schemes, one of which is Sheri-Kashmir Employment Scheme. She said that 520 girls were given training in jute activity. Also 120 awareness camps were conducted during the year where more than 40,000 women were sensitized. More than 25,000 jute bags were supplied to Shri Mata Vaishnu Devi Shrine Board which were prepared by the trainees in different training centers and an amount of Rs 2.74 lakh were received against these bags from Shrine Board which were disbursed to different SHGs, which were involved in preparation in these jute bags. Three mega exhibitions were conducted by JKWDC during the year. Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo emphasised upon women in general and self help groups in particular to come forward and work unitedly for their rights and socio-economic empowerment Ajaz Ahamad Khan while appreciating the efforts of the WDC stressed that women folk should come forward for demanding their legitimate rights. Khem Lata Wakhloo, Chairperson, J&K State Social Welfare Board in her address emphasised that women is an important part of society and needs to be given her due for overall development of the society and state as well. Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner/Secretary to Govt. Social Welfare Department Jeet Lal Gupta appreciated the progress made by the women in every sphere of life and focussed upon every important role of women in our social setup. Later, the Minister distributed cheques to the tune of Rs.29.75 lakh among 26 women beneficiaries and also inaugurated the two days sale-cum-exhibition of products prepared by SHGs assisted by Women’s Development Corporation.
