Football players welcome removal of DG DYSS | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, March 09: Jammu Football Players Welfare Association in a meeting held today hailed the coalition government, led by Omar Abdullah, for removing S A Leharwal from important position of Director General Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) here yesterday. Speaking to SAN, secretary of the Association, Rajesh Kumar said that Leharwal, who was also holding the additional charge of State Sports Council, has done nothing for the welfare of state’s most popular game of football. “He allowed the existing football infrastructure at GGM Science College to deteriorate in the absence of proper upkeep during his tenure as head of state sports. It was under his Directorship that football field at Mini Stadium Parade spoiled,” he said. Meanwhile, the Association urged the government to constitute new State Sports Council by appointing an independent head so as to achieve desired results. “We hope that new Director, Jaipal Singh, who has served as District Development Commissioner, Rajouri and Anantnag, would do justice with sports and sportspersons, especially those associated with game of football,” said Rajesh. It is pertinent to mention here that acting on complaints, government removed Director General DYSS, holding additional charge of Sports Council, from the post yesterday. Leharwal has been transferred as OSD (Officer on Special Duty) with Transport Department.
