| NABARD celebrates Women’s Day | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, March 9: NABARD organised International Women’s Day in which Dr Poonam Dhawan was invited as chief guest to address the SHGs women leaders of Jammu region.
The function was inaugurated by Chief General Manager M.L. Sukhdeve. In his inaugural address, Sukhdeve informed that women are still deprived of their share in society whether its economic or social status. Women can obtain this only by economic independence by earning livelihood. For this NABARD is making number of initiatives to provide them training to start economic activities, promoting them into SHGs to start activities in groups.
Sukhdeve informed about NABARD’s other initiatives. NABARD has nominated a separate women officer to look after all the matter related to women.
Dr Poonam Dhawan, Director, Distant Education Department, University of Jammu informed about the economic condition of women in Jammu & Kashmir State.
She thanked NABARD for the efforts being made for upliftment of women. The function ended with vote of thanks.
