EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, March 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association today demanded water supply for for irrigating acres of land at villages : Shahzadpur Kanheya and Smailpur (falling within the jurisdiction of Block Marh of Tehsil Jammu). At a general body meet at Shahzadpur Kothi, the members said that they had approached the Chief Engineer, Irrigation Department, Jammu several times in this regard but nothing substantial had been done so far by the Department to irrigate the said land. Members added that the affected villagers are too poor to afford to install water pumps in their fields. The Association therefore, passed a resolution to urge the Minister for Irrigation to call up the Irrigation authorities in his office and direct them to adopt adequate measures to irrigate the land of the poor villagers so as to relieve them of their mental tension. Prominent among those who attended the meeting included Ex MLA Sat Pal Lakhotra, Capt Om Parkash Tugga, Capt. Kamal Chand Motan, R.L. Kaith, Sub. Maj. Gunni Ram Kaith, Chaman Lal, Mela Ram, Thoru Ram, Jalla Ram, Ram Lal, Narayan Dass, Diwan Chand, Dilay Ram, Bua Ditta, Varinder Kaith, Jagat Raj, Kamal Singh, Dev Raj, Sarna Ram, Lal Chand, Faiza Ram, Ravail Chand, Harish Bhardwaj and Sham Lal.
