SECTARIAN CONFLICT UPSET KASHMIRIS IN VALLEY
11/13/2006 10:28:30 PM
Srinagar,Nov 13
Even when the ghost of militancy related violence continued to haunt the valley the under currents of sectarian conflict seem to have upset people in Kashmir.
A recent statement from citizens of Uri,in which Shia organizations have been blamed for resorting to forcible conversion of Sunnis to the shia sect, has added new dimensions to the sectarian conflict.
The statement, while accusing the Shia organizations, without naming them,of trying to convert sunnis in Uri border belt, has said that these organizations were enticing sunnis while carrying our relief operations in the tremor hit area.It has warned these organizations of dire consequences if their leaders did not stop operation conversion.
Informed sources said that the genesis of this charge is a sharp reaction from two senior Shia leaders,Molvi Abbas Ansari and Aga Hassan Budgami,to an article published in a magazine published by Dar-ul-uloom Mustafa in Baramulla in which Shias had been berated.
The sources said that the recent bomb explosion in Tahab in Pulwama,in which six people were killed and 35 were injured, during a congregation reflected growing conflict between Barailvis,on one side, and Allawale,Ahl Hadees and Jamait-e-Islami on the other.A month earlier than the Tahab blast supporters of Barailvis and Ahl Hadees had clashed at Pinglan(Pulwama) and the situation was defused through police intervention. In yaripora(kulgam) sunnis have stepped up their campaign against Ahmedias, who have been declared non-muslims in Pakistan. As a result of this campaign 55 Ahmedias were won over to Islam and were allowed to offer prayers in Jamia Masjid.
Supporters of Jamait-e-Islami do not believe in shrine worship or visiting saints for seeking blessings. They also oppose the Barailvi concept on the Prophet being alive and one could seek his help through prayers.
