| GOVT NOT to LEASe TOURIST RESORTS TO NON-STATE SUBJECTS: DILAWAR | | | Jammu, November 13 The state Government today categorically denied that it was promoting, what its critics call, corporate occupation of Kashmir by leasing out land at tourist resorts to non-state subjects for setting up hotels and huts. The Tourism Minister, Mr Dilawar Mir, told newsmen in Jammu that allegations regarding leasing out land to people from outside the state were “baseless.” He explained that the Government has decided to allot 550 kanals of land at Gulmarg tourist resort to state subjects who were keen to build hotels and huts.He said there was no plan to give on lease any Government land to non-state subjects. Mr Mir said that once the infrastructure for hotels and huts were built the state subjects could seek assistance from nonstate subjects for managing the affairs of these hotels or cafeterias or restaurants. In case the local people,to whom the land was leased out, wanted to have expertise from outside the state for ensuring proper working in these hotels and restaurants they were free to seek it.He said the outsiders could help the local people in management of the complexes. In reply to a question the Minister said that his visit to London in connection with World Tourism Meet was aimed at seeking help from leaders of tourism for promoting tourist traffic to the winter sports in Kashmir. He said that during the meet he explained to the world tourism leaders the variety Kashmir could offer as far as winter sports were concerned. Mr Mir said he was satisfied with the state Government’s campaign for bringing Kashmir on the world tourism map.He said the campaign for attracting tourists to Jammu and Kashmir will continue. In reply to another question the Minister said that incidents of violence were not confined to Kashmir only they were there in many parts of the world. He said that tourists had been impressed by the beauty of Kashmir and during the last four years there has been a marked increase in the tourist traffic to the valley. He said he did not find that incidents of violence will affect tourist traffic to Kashmir.( |
