ABJASS threatens to protest on Mar 14 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu , March 10: Keeping in view the nation-wide stir by Akhil Bhartiya Jat Aarakshan Sangarsh Samiti (ABJASS) , the Jammu and Kashmir unit of the Samiti today held a protest demonstration at Dayala Chak under the presidentship of Ch. Dewan Singh. Addressing a large gathering, Singh informed the people that OBC status stands granted to Jats of Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Gujarat whereas Jats of J&K who’s 90 % population resides along Indo-Pak border from Dhoulian Jattan, Kathua to Pargwal and further along Actual Line of Control from Hamirpur Sidhar to Nowshera-Mendhar-Uri have been denied of OBC status. Jats have not been able to educate their children to the desired towards extreme backwardness. Moreover, the situation always remains tense on the border due to strained Indo Pak relations. Further the community has bear the brunt of Indo Pak wars of 1965, 1971 and even during Kargil conflict of 1999 and partition of 1947. Singh warned if the government does not awake from the deep slumber, the situation is going to take ugly turn and peaceful protests are going to become violent in the form of Rail Roko and Sadak Roko of March 14 and the government will be held responsible for any national loss. He appealed to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene to concede the genuine demand of the community for granting OBC status. Prominent among others who addressed the gathering included Balwainder Singh, Capt. Chandu Singh, Balbir Singh, Capt. Rasal Singh, Sham Singh, Chain Singh, Baldev Singh, Surinder Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Suraj Singh, Sub. Gian Singh.
