Thathri Dev Front flays CM’s statement on delimitation
3/10/2011 11:44:13 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu , March 10: The Thathri Development Front today flayed the statement of Chief Minister in Assembly regarding delimitation and termed as evasive tactics.
At a meeting organized under the chairmanship of Kuldeep Kumar Rao, he said that
every enlighten citizen of the state knows that the supreme court verdict applies to all the states of the country but J&K State has a special status vide Article 370 and its assembly can pass any law with 2/3 majority in which supreme court does not interfere. If the ruling alliance again and harps on the special status of J&K and if it is competent to pass law in the government has failed to understand that equitable development is not possible without delimitation of assembly and parliamentary constituencies.
They also appealed to all political parties in this session. Rao said that the state assembly during NC rule had passed a law under which the delimitation of assembly and parliamentary constituencies could not be held till 2026. This has led to injustice with the Jammu province which has more population and area than Kashmir but only 37 Assembly seats have been provided to it as compared to Kshmir valley which has 46 assembly seats with less population and cover less area as compared to Jammu. Rao said that of equitable development to all the regions, earlier decision needs to be withdrawn to give justice to Jammu province.
All MLA’s and leaders from Jammu who are in PDP and in National conference should support the bill for equitable development for all region and prove their loyalty to their own region. Even those who are in NC & Congress should either make the alliance government responsive towards the genuine demands of the region or quit at once and sacrifice their petty personal interests for larger interest of their aggrieved brethren.
They also termed the state government decision to hold panchayat election without implementing the 73rd and 74th amendments as undemocratic and unconstitutional. They also demanded that the decision be revoked and the election be held only after implementation of these amendements and the assembly should give its decision in this regard if all the MLA’s are sincere in really delegating the power to the grass root.
The meeting was attended by Om Raj Bhall, General Secretary, Advocate Kanwar jeet singh Thakur, Sr. Vice President, Subash Chander and others
