SRINAGAR, Mar 10: The proposal of 5 percent increase in service tax on healthcare by the Union government in recent budget has stunned commoners and people are fumed over this decision of the government.
People feel that the government is misleading them by giving the justification that only air-conditioned hospitals and rich patients will feel the heat of this tax. "If you undergo any heart surgery, you must pay Rs 5000 to 10,000 or more as service tax. If you are unfortunate and suffer from cancer, then you will be charged anywhere in excess of Rs 20.000 as service tax," a tourist said. .
Pertinently, not a single operation theatre or blood bank can legally function without air-conditioning. A school teacher by profession, Mohammad Akbar said that it is the duty of the Government to provide people with affordable healthcare instead of increasing the cost by adding more taxes.
