Delay in setting up new polytechnics worries Govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, March 10: Concerned Government agencies are being held responsible for the delay in establishing 18 polytechnics in the state. Official sources confirmed that the sanction for setting up these polytechnics had been given by the centre last year but till date there has been tardy progress in the completion of the project. Reports said that several factors have been responsible for this delay. In certain uncovered areas the Government has not been able to acquire suitable land for the setting up of the polytechnics and in other cases the centre has delayed release of funds. However, the Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather, has asked the concerned agencies to start executing the project so that all the 18 polytechnics were set up within next two to three years. The state Government has also decided to implement the programme of constructing 19 model schools and 10 Girls' hostels during the current financial year under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan.Official sources said that senior functionaries of the Department of Education are being asked to select the places or areas, preferably in less developed belts in the state, where these schools and hostels were to be constructed. Another scheme to benefit school going children is the introduction of mid-day meals scheme on a large scale. During the current financial year about 11 lakh children are to be covered under the mid-day meals programme.
