| UJC backs Geelani's resistance movement against leasing of land to outsiders in Kashmir | | | Srinagar,Nov 13 The United Jihad Council has expressed its deep concern over the State Government's decision of leasing out state land to outsiders in Jammu & Kashmir State. In a statement faxed to KNS by UJC spokesman Syed Sadaqat Hussain said the meeting chaired by Council Chairman Syed Sallah-ud-Din termed the decision a part of a deep rooted conspiracy hatched to change the demographic character of the state in the name of promotion of tourist and trade activities in tourist hot spots like Gulmarg and Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir State. Saying that the people to whom the prime land for construction of hotels and other commercial establishments will be leased out for a period of 90 years can claim the ownership rights after the expiry of lease period, the statement said the plan matches the Israeli policy under which Jews forcibly grabbed land in Palestine for construction of hotels and other commercial establishments which helped hews to change the demographic character of most parts of Palestine later. Warning that muslims in Kashmir won't allow such plans to succeed, UJC Chairman Syed Sallah-ud-Din said he fully back Syed Ali Shah Geelani's stated position over the issue and the resistance movement which he has launched to oppose the Government decision. He also said that those who occupy the land on lease in Kashmir will be responsible themselves for the consequences. The political rulers and bureaucrats have been also asked to desist from going ahead with the proposal of leasing out state land to outsiders.
