Kashmir remains cold with night temperature going down | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Mar 10 : Night temperature remained below normal in the Kashmir valley and Ladakh region where world famous ski resort of Gulmarg recorded minus 8.2 degrees and border town of Kargil with minus 16 degrees were the coldest in the region.
The day temperature was above normal though the sky was partially cloudy.
The minimum temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar, was 1.3 degrees, two degrees below normal this morning.
Though sun was out this morning, students were still seen wearing warm cloths.
There was further drop in the minimum temperature at Gulmarg, where different institutions and clubs are conducting skiing courses.
A Met department spokesman said the night temperature at Gulmarg was minus 8.2 degrees, about 0.5 degrees less than yesterday's minus 7.8 degrees.
At Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir, the minimum was minus 4, an improvement of 0.5 degrees against yesterday when it was minus 4.5 degrees.
Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway and Kupwara in north Kashmir, recorded a slight drop in the temperature this morning.
The authorities still allow only one-way traffic on the highway, the only road linking the Valley with the rest of the city. Vehicles will ply from Srinagar to Jammu today.
The border town of Kargil in Ladakh region on Srinagar-Leh national highway, the minimum dipped further to minus 16 degrees this morning against yesterday's minus 14.8 degrees.
At Leh it was minus 7.8 degrees against minus 7.6 degrees yesterday.
The authorities are still supplying water to residents through water tankers to avoid any damage to water pipes which were frozen due to the cold weather.
