LeT operative lands in Doda police dragnet along with hawala money | | | Bharat Bhushan JAMMU, Mar 10: A Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative, who had a vast network of contacts in the state and across the border, today landed in police dragnet in Doda city along a hawala money consignment. The operative, whom SP (headquarter), Doda, Mohammad Arif Rishu identified as Bashir Ahmad, hails from Doda's Bharath village. The SP said Bashir was in constant touch with top Pak-based LeT commander Mohammadi and often got directions from him on his mobile phone. He was also a close confidant of LeT commander Javed Ahmad alias Hurrera, who was perched somewhere in Doda hills. Official sources said the input about his militant connections was provided to Doda police by Intelligence Bureau (IB). As the input suggested that he had been directed by Mohammadi from Pakistan to deliver a hawala money consignment to Hurrera today, multiple nakas were laid by police at several places on the Doda-Bharath road and in Doda city. He was caught by one of the naka parties in Doda city, Rishu informed. His frisking led cops to the recovery of Rs 1.84 lakh of hawala money. It also became known during his interrogation that the seized money was to be delivered by him to Hurrera on the directions of Mohammadi. He was in constant touch with Mohammadi since long and had been working for Hurrera to spread LeT activities in and around Doda, the SP said. Asked who gave Bashir the hawala money and at which place he received it, Rishu said interrogators were yet to extract all these details from him. Police had booked him under Unlawful Activities Act. His sustained interrogation was in progress. The naka party, which laid hands on him, was headed by DSP (headquarters), Doda, and SHO of Doda police station. The operation to arrest him was supervised by Rishu and SP (operations), Doda. —Early Times Report |
