Army officer in CBI net for demanding graft

JAMMU, Mar 10: After busting controversial Adarsh Housing Society scam in Mumbai, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) weed out a corrupt officer of Lt Colonel Rank for demanding and taking graft from a contractor in Srinagar today.
The accused army officer was caught red handed after he took demanded money in the presence of independent eyewitnesses from a contractor for releasing his pending dues in his office in Srinagar. Official sources said that acting on the complaint of contractor that Garrison Engineer (GE) Lieutenant Colonel PK Shrivastava had been demanding Rs 40,000 from him for releasing his pending dues, CBI official laid a trap and arrested him red handed for demanding and taking graft.
CBI sources said that Shrivastava, who was Garrison Engineer of 15 core in Awantipora, was initially harassing the contractor on one pretext or other and finally demanded graft of Rs 40,000. On the base of complaint, a team comprising of DySP Rajveer Singh and three Inspectors including Mohd Farooq, Rouf Bashir and Indris Malik supervised by S.P Srinagar KL Raina.
The officers, sources said gave the amount to the contractor which the garrison engineer had been demanding from him. They accompanied him as labourers and took along independent witnesses. As soon as GE allegedly took the money from the contractor, he was caught hold of by the CBI team.
CBI officer further informed that during his frisking, Rs 7 lakh in cash was also recovered from him. CBI officials are quizzing him to know the source of money after taking him in custody. CBI has also lodged a case against the army officer in this connection. Further, investigation was is in progress, officer maintained.
