| MLAs get dose of 'reprimand' from Speaker | | 'Show seriousness or else I will adjourn the House' | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 10: The Speaker of the Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone today reprimanded the House for what he observed as non seriousness by the members particularly from treasury benches in ensuring consistent participation and presence during the proceedings of the House. The Speaker also warned the government if such 'non seriousness' in terms of their absence , resulting in lack of quorum was repeated in future, he would be forced to adjourn the House.
The scolding from the Speaker came during the discussion on Budget when most of the members from both the Opposition as well as Treasury benches were conspicuous by the absence with seats vacant on both the sides. As the discussion progressed, Panthers Party legislator Balwant Singh Mankotia pointed out there was lack of quorum in the House. He was supported by PDP MLA Choudhary Zulfikar Ahmad who also pointed towards the vacant seats in treasury benches. This prompted Speaker to give a 'dose' of admonishment to the government. " Rather Sahab Main Yeh Dekh Raha Hoon Ki members Khastour Par treasury benches par Baithey membran Apna Bolney Key baad Bahar Chale Jatein Hai.....(it often comes to my notice the members particulary from the treasury benches move out of the House once they speak their own points ....), Spekaer said pointing towards Rather and adding that this was a unacceptable and unhealthy trend in so far as the business of the House is concerned.
Even as some members entered House hurriedly, the Speaker did not stop conveying his point and annoyance on what he said non serious attitude of the members. He said the frequent movement of the ministers was understood as they have to attend the Upper House as well. But members are showing non serious attitude which is not acceptable. " In don't understand what is the urgency of moving out of the House once they make their speeches.....", he said adding on a warning note if that happened again he would be left with no option than to adjourn the House . "This may cause prolonging the session and the proceedings.....I cannot help ....I have to maintain discipline and ensure seriousness of the members in every business", Lone said. |
