| PG men, women overall champion in Athletics | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, March 11: Powered by the talent pool of Department of Sports and Physical Education, Post Graduate (PG) Departments of University of Jammu today clinched overall championship trophies in both men and women sections in the annual athletics meet that concluded with the holding of valedictory function of inter-college competitions on the campus, here.
To claim men’s title, PG athletes secured highest 80 points. Government MAM College (34 pts) and SPMR College of Commerce (20 pts) remained second and third respectively.
Similarly, in women’s category, PG topped the points tally with 62 points, followed by Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar (47 pts) and Degree College Paloura (four).
For their outstanding performance, Amardeep Singh and Vikesh Kumar, both of PG Departments were adjudged best athletes.
However, the men’s sprint gold went to Sumit Kumar of GGM Science College while Baljeet Singh of MAM remained second and Rajan Kumar, again of Science College finished third. In women’s 100 meters race, Jasleen Kour of GCW Parade clinched gold. Priyanka Khajuria of PG Departments and Nitu Devi of GCW Gandhi Nagar were second and third respectively.
In the valedictory function of inter-college competitions, Minister for Higher Education, Abdul Gani Malik was chief guest, who blessed the athletes and presented them winners and runners-up trophies in inter-college competitions held during the year.
For their initiative to conduct inter-college competitions, Principals of GGM Science College, GCW Gandhi Nagar, Government PG College Udhampur as also PTIs of different colleges were felicitated by JU.
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu, Prof Varun Sahni also briefed the distinguished gathering about sports achievements. Director Sports and Physical Education, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau presented a detailed note of inter-college activities in his welcome address.
Earlier, students of Department of Physical Education performed Yoga before the audience and received applause.
