| Overspeeding Army vehicles kill 2 | | One of them was well-known environmentalist | |
Jammu, Nov 13 A well-known environmentalist of the state Chaman Lal Chaman today died when the motorcycle, he was riding, was hit by a speedy army vehicle outside the building of Munsiff court Akhnoor, about 40 kms from here this morning, while another youth was crushed to death by an army vehicle in Jammu city. Sources said that the speedy army truck hit the motorcycle from behind resulting on the spot death of Chaman Lal Chaman. He was shifted to Sub District Hospital, Akhnoor, where he was declared brought dead, sources said. It was learnt that the deceased was a renowned environmentalist of the state, who was honoured by various states, including Punjab and Rajasthan, for his work in the field of preservation of environment. Born in 1943 at village Sapwal, border area of Akhnoor, Lal has also served army for more than 2 years. He quit the job to serve in the field of environment, a family member tinformedr. He was the recipient of fellowship by Dalit Sahit Academy and several other prestigious awards, they added. He was also running a non-government organisation, for the preservation of green trees. Meanwhile, sources said, an over speedy army vehicle crushed a motorcyclist to death and injured other, near Hotel Asia, this morning. The youth who was CAO in CDA, has been identified as Deeraj Reshi S/O Puran Chand R/O Poonch. Injured has been hospitalized and is in critical condition.
