Night cold in Kashmir, mercury dips in Ladakh region | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Mar 11: Night remained cold in the Kashmir valley, where world famous ski resort of Gulmarg with minus 7.8 degrees was coldest while minimum dropped further in the Ladakh region this morning. Border town of Kargil, where the educational institutions will reopen on Monday after winter vacation, was coldest with minus 17 degrees minimum temperature. However, day temperature was above normal in the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region. It was yet another pleasant morning in the summer capital, Srinagar, with bright sunshine. However, sky became partially cloudy as the day progressed. A Met department spokesman said the minimum temperature in Srinagar was 1.5 degrees, about one degree below normal. Gulmarg, 55 km from here in north Kashmir, remained coldest in the Valley when the minimum temperature recorded at minus 7.8 degrees this morning. However, it had improved against yesterdays 8.2 degrees. But it dropped further to minus 4.4 degrees in health resort of Pahalgam, base camp of holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir against yesterday's minus 4 degrees. There was no change in the temperature elsewhere in the Kashmir Valley. People in Ladakh region, which remained cut off from the rest of the state following the closure of the only national highway since December last year due to snowfall, continued to shiver after the minimum dropped further this morning. At Leh it was minus 9.6 degrees against yesterdays minus 7.8 degrees, he added.
