Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 11: Though the militancy is on wane in Kashmir Valley but some people have developed vested interest in continuance of gun culture and violence in the state. This is the general feeling among common Kashmiris who are fed up with over 20 year long violence and gun culture.
``The people of the valley don't support the violence and they are fed up with it'', said Ghulam Ahmed a fruit merchant of Kupwara. The people are not with militancy now but every body who means in Kashmir has developed a vested interest in it'', he added.
Whether these are the main stream politicians or the separatist leaders all have developed vested interests in terrorism, he said, adding the separatist leaders who had no base in normal times are now dictating terms to the Government and they will not like to lose this status at any cost. This is the reason that they want the violence to continue as long as possible.
``No one in Kashmir whether politicians, separatist leaders or militants are bothered for the common masses of the Valley'', said Ghulam Rasool a trader from down town. The people have suffered a lot over these years and the entire state faced a lot of death and destruction. The people crave for peace now and they are ready to give all cooperation and support to the Government for restoring peace, he added.
But neither those who are in power are interested in welfare of the masses nor the separatists want that conducive atmosphere should prevail in the Valley, he said. The militancy has become a milking cow for these elements and they have amassed a huge wealth over these years, he added.
He said the politicians are also not interested in normalisation of situation in the Valley as there is no accountability. There is no accountability where the huge funds granted by the centre for the welfare and developmental schemes are spent, he added.
Taking the advantage of turmoil this unaccountability has developed a vested interest among the politicians who want the situation should continue as it is. The Union Government may be fully apprised of the situation but it also hesitates in laying hands on such politicians who have such a vested interest.
Major chunk of the funds earmarked for development goes down the drain but no body has till date been booked by the government on this account, said Mehraj-ud_Din a retired cop from Lar area of Ganderbal district. He while making a dig at separatists said that they have failed to condemned the killing of innocent people.
The recent killing of two girls in Sopore township of Baramulla district in North Kashmir should be an eye opener for them, he asked and cautioned the people not to fall a prey in the hands of those who have given the call of re-launching the agitation this Summer.
