Employment packages a farce | Low merit holders not eligible for Class IV posts! | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 11: Even as the government trumpets its employment packages, the chances of `low merit holders' to make an honourable living seem quite bleak. This is the message one gets from the appointment of persons on Class IV posts in the department of Animal Husbandry. One of the officers who comprised the board constituted for filling the said posts in Anantnag district has been attached to Director's office and an enquiry has been ordered against him. The Board had considered some candidates with low merit for selection. Curiously the officer who has been attached ignored as many as 39 recommendatory letters of ministers and MLAs who had written him to ensure selection of their men. Surprisingly the government has not laid down any rules, eligibility criterion including cut off percentage or even guidelines for selection of candidates to class IV posts. For 39 posts around 4000 applications were received. Some of them had done Masters in various subjects. The Board received a shock when they found an applicant with BVSc &AH degree among the aspirants. He was politely asked to withdraw for obvious reasons. A question arises. What shall candidates with low merit, therefore, do? If they cannot be considered for Class IV posts, what recourse is left to them? Are government's employment packages meant for merit holders only? The low merit is not the only problem that haunts thousands of job aspirants. Many of them are about to cross the upper age limit prescribed by the government for seeking employment in government or semi-government departments. "The authorities, therefore, should have taken a lenient view to accommodate them. But on the contrary people are punished for showing concern for them", said a candidate. The treatment given to the chairman Selection Board Anantnag has scared similar Boards of other districts. According to reports, they are scared of going ahead with the selection process. The callous attitude of the authorities is bound to affect the employment package adversely. While nobody from the government side was available for comment, the problem may assume serious dimensions if left unaddressed. |
