| Jonty XI VS Tourism XI | | First Snow Cricket match held at Gulmarg | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Gulmarg, March 12: As a part of its continuous efforts of the Tourism Department Kashmir to promote winter sports in Kashmir Valley especially in the picturesque and world famous tourist resort ,Gulmarg, and attract more and more tourists from National and International Countries to Gulmarg, a unique snow 10-Over cricket tournament was today played between two teams Jonty Rhodes XI and Tourism Department XI here at the snow bound pitch under the Captainship of the International Player of South Africa, Mr Jonty Rhodes and Mr. Mohammad Shah, Chief Executive Officer, Gulmarg Development Authority of the respective teams.
On this occasion, Mr Jonty Rhodes described Gulmarg as an amazing place and said that the Kashmir Valley has a tremendous potential to harness snow cricket and other winter sports, having beautiful meadows and tourist sports for enjoying the nature.
Regarding the World Cup, Mr. Jonty Rhodes said that India has a strong batting line like Gutam, Gambir, Sachin, Sehwag and Dhoni and also having best spinners. He further said South Africa has also a strong batting line and today’s match between the two giants would be a fantastic.
Earlier, Jonty Rhodes team XI was defeated by department of Kashmir Tourism by 11 runs as the J&K Tourism Team XI had given a target of 60 runs before the Jonty Rhodes team XI.
Later, Mr. Jonty Rhodes presented mementos to the players of the winning team and others. He also thanked for inviting him on this spot for promoting snow cricking in Kashmir valley and hoped that he will come again for enjoying snow cricket and other sports.
