Tarigmai demands Law Commission for State | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, March 12: CPI (M) legislator M Y Tarigami highlighted the need to set up Law Commission in the State to undertake comprehensive review of the legal system and remove obsolete and outdated laws. Speaking on the grants of law, parliamentary affairs and rural development departments in the Assembly today, he called for empowering the people at grass root level in line with revolutionary programme of Naya Kashmir as enunciated by Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. He said neglecting even this basic tenet raises doubts about the sincerity of those who demand autonomy or self rule for the State. The legislator called for elected Chairman of District Development Boards, enabling these institutions to function independently. He asked the government to come up with Finance and Election Commission Bills for panchayats to pave the way for real devolution of planning and funds mechanism. Stressing on social auditing, the legislator called for timely payment of both wages and work to the job card holders under MGNREGA. To overcome the problem of deficient staff needed for efficient implementation of the scheme, he suggested utilizing 6% administrative component provided under the flagship programme. The legislator also demanded website for the state legislature so that business in both Houses goes on line.
