Policy platform on climate change established in J&K | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 12: Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Environment, Ecology and Remote Sensing in collaboration with WWF-India, Himalayan Voice and MCC today held one day workshop for setting up policy platform on climate change in Jammu and Kashmir. Workshop was inaugurated by Minister for Forests Mian Altaf and Member Parliament (MP) Madan Lal Sharma presided over the inaugural function of the workshop. Workshop was organized to ensure that state specific climate action plan for J&K addresses the concerns of people of all three regions of the state. Government of J&K has to design a state specific climate action plan in line with the national climate action plan made by the Government of India. Workshop was part of the as series of policy platform workshops being organized in five Himalayan states in India by WWF-India. The main objective of the workshop was to bring various government departments, scientists, along with other stakeholders at one platform. Earlier while speaking on the occasion Mian Altaf, stressed on the need for having a climate change action plan for J&K at the earliest possible. While addressing the gathering, Madan Lal Sharma stressed on the seriousness of the issues related to climate change and need to launch massive awareness campaign so that common man is aware about the adverse impacts of climate change. He assured all possible support to the government and NGO sector in framing a policy and its execution.
