BJP leaders to seek Kohli’s help to end infighting | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, March 13:- After failing to set their house in order, the local BJP leaders intend to approach OP Kohli, the Jammu Kashmir in charge of the party for ending infighting.
The eleven BJP legislators have failed to rise as one team on several occasions in the Assembly. At times the legislators opposed each other.
A senior BJP leader said that with the state unit of the Congress having been placed in an embarrassing situation owing to its alliance with the Kashmir centric National Conference, the saffron brigade had got a proper opportunity for strengthening its bases in the Jammu region. “But bcause of the infighting the BJP seems to have frittered away this opportunity”, he remarked.
He said that the level of infighting could be gauged from the fact that the some senior leaders were not on talking terms with one another."Even if they talk it is formal and restricted to a few seconds,” he said.
The BJP leader admitted that Shanata Kumar, who had remained in charge of party affairs in Jammu Kashmir, had avoided coming down with a heavy stick on the dissidents with the result the level of infighting increased. He said that since O.P.Kohli was a man of action he would be able to infuse discipline in the organization which was needed when the panchayat elections were round the corner.
He said since the organizational elections had taken place last year it was not possible to change the present leadership. He suggested that a committee of senior leaders including Professor Chaman Lal Gupta, Ashok Khajuria, Chander Mohan Sharma, Dr Jitendra Singh, Shamsher Singh Manhas and Dr Nirmal Singh be constituted with due representation to senior functionaries of the ABVP, RSS, Mahila wing of the BJP for framing a draft that could end infighting.
