Kargil coldest with minus 17.6, people visiting gardens in Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Mar 13 : Kargil, a border town on Srinagar-Leh national highway was coldest in the Ladakh region after the minimum temperature dipped further to minus 17.6 degree this morning. A Met Department spokesman said there would be no major change in temperature in the Kashmir Valley during the next 24 hours. He said Kargil recorded minus 17.6 degree minimum temperature, two notches below yesterday's temperature of 16 degree. There was, however, no change at Leh where the minimum remained minus 8 degree this morning. The Ladakh region remained cut off from the rest of the state due to closure of the national highway following snowfall. Meanwhile, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, has commenced snow clearance operation from both sides of the Zojila to reopen the road in May. Even though the tulips and other flowers were delayed by about two weeks due to snowfall early this morning, hundreds of people today visited Mughal gardens on the bank of Dal Lake since morning because of sunny weather. The spokesman said the minimum temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar was recorded at 2.8 degree, near normal. However, the maximum was more than six degree above normal due to bright sunshine. Gulmarg, the world famous ski resort in north Kashmir was coldest in the Valley with minus 4.1 degree minimum temperature followed by minus 2.4 degree at health resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir this morning.
