VO asked to probe properties, bank accounts | Drive against corrupt officers | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 13: In its drive to weed out corruption, the state government has sent a list of dozens of corrupt officers to Vigilance Organization to probe their assets and bank accounts, sources told The officers mentioned in the list include officials from Civil Secretariat, district and tehsil offices. "Some arrests are also expected in coming days. The government has been conducting the exercise secretly from the last several months and the list of the officers who have amassed wealth through corrupt means will be in Vigilance net soon," sources said. "After hectic exercise General Administration Department and Home Department have prepared the list and handed it over to Vigilance Organization for further investigations," they added. The Vigilance is expected to probe the details of properties of relatives of these officers also. "Some of the officers have purchased huge properties in the name of their kith and kin to avoid scrutiny. But the Vigilance has been asked to look into this angle also," sources said. The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, while addressing Vigilance Conference recently had pulled up bureaucrats for failing to effectively check corruption. He had lamented that officials were sitting with their "eyes, ears and mouths shut to the corruption and nepotism around them." "Although the responsibility lies with me... the buck stops here... the buck of responsibility. So be it. The buck stops with me, but it starts with you (officials)," Omar said. |
