| ABJASS holds dharna at Kehli Mandi | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu ,Mar 14:KATHUA In support of Rail roko protest by jats all over India for grant of OBC Status, Jammu and Kashmir unit of Akhil Bharatiya Jat Aarashan Sangrash Samiti staged a dharna at Kelhi Mandi Samba on today.
They also took out a rally from Kehli Mandi Samba along national highway. More than 500 people took part in the rally and submitted memorandum of demands to the government through Deputy Commissioner, Samba.
It is not out of place to mention here that OBC Status stands granted to Jats in the states of Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh and Uttrakhand. It is beyond understanding why it has not been granted in state like Jammu and Kashmir when Jats are associated with cattle rearing and farming and have the same low social status and backwardness in education. Moreever, the Jats in Jammu & Kashmir have suffered a lot when their homeland Chhamb got occupied by Pakistan during the wars of 1947, 1965 and 1971 they became refugees.
Addressing the gathering, president Sangarsh Samiti Dewan Singh threatened the government of dire consequences if the OBC status is not granted at the stage. He also told the community is struggling for the same for the last fifteen years and government is well aware of the fact that community is the backward socially and educationally in the state. He further informed the agitation would be intensified in the coming days till the demand is met.
The elected representatives from the community Sukhandan and Sham Lal, members of legislative Assembly also attended and addressed the gathering. Both of them extended full support to the agitation and assured they will raise the issue in the assembly with full force. Prominent among others who addressed include Kamal Singh, Triath Singh, Sardari lal, Darshan Singh and Dr. Sayed.
