Dy CM distributes Rs.63 lakh among drought affected farmers | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 14: Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand today distributed Rs.63 lakh among drought affected 9,034 families at a function held at Khour block Akhnoor.. Addressing large gathering of farmers after distribution of relief, Dy. Chief Minister asked functionaries of Agriculture department to introduce multi-cropping and cash crop system in every rural area and make the farming community aware about latest technology so that damage to cultivation could be avoided and failure of crops is minimised. Giving details of facilities being extended to farmers by the Government, Dy. Chief Minister said that a project of Rs.20 crore has been formulated to provide electricity to farmers through power receiving stations dedicated for the community. He further said that Kashmir Canal from Akhnoor to Palanwala is being modernised to multiply the irrigation facilities to rural masses. Referring to steps taken by the Government for providing road connectivity to people of Khour Block, Tara Chand said that Rs.6 crore project under R&B sector and Rs.30 crore under PMGSY have been taken in hand to facilitate people with a network of roads in semi-urban and remote areas. For solving the shortage of staff problem, Deputy Chief Minister said that teacher posts have been sent to SSRB for speedy selection of suitable candidates against the available vacancies.
