| JU’s inter-department sports meet begins | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, March 15: Annual inter-department sports meet of University of Jammu (JU) started today with opening day witnessed competitions in badminton, chess and cricket on the campus, here.
This event is being organised under the supervision of Physical Training Instructor (PTI) Campus in an attempt to provide the Post Graduate students a platform to excel in sports.
CRICKET: Political Sciences and MBA Department won their respective matches to move into the next round.
Earlier, in the first match, Political Sciences trounced Department of Urdu by five wickets. Batting first, Urdu set a target of 125 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs, which, in reply, Political Sciences chased in 17.2 overs losing five wickets.
In another match of the day, MBA Department registered a big 77 runs win over Department of Education. Batting first, MBA made 146 runs for nine. In reply, Education Department bowled out for just 69 runs in 16.1 overs.
BADMINTON:
MEN: Botany Department bt Statistics 2-1 (21-06, 14-21, 21-16); Law Department got walkover Department of Chemistry; SHTM got walkover Geography; Economics got walkover Political Sciences; MCA got walkover Sociology and Business School got walkover Zoology.
WOMEN: Department of Mathematics bt Law Department 21-19, 20-22, 21-14; Psychology bt Statistics Department 21-10, 21-05; Geography bt MCA 21-11, 22-24, 21-09; SHTM bt Physical Education 09-21, 21-16, 21-08.
CHESS: Sociology Department trounced SHTM Department; Political Sciences got walkover Law School; Economics Deaprtment got walkover Library Sciences.
