Colloquia for welfare of undertrials organised

Jammu, March 15: A Special Lok Adalat and a Colloquia marked the concluding day of mega Lok Adalats organized at Munsiff Court Complex, Banihal.
The mega lok adalat was held under the chairmanship of Bala Jyoti, Principal District and Sessions Judge (Chairperson District Legal Services Authority), Ramban. Chairperson, both Tehsil Legal Services Committee Ramban and Banihal, co-ordinated.
In the First Session, a Special Lok Adalat was organized at the Munsiff Court Complex, Banihal wherein three benches were constituted headed by Chief Judicial Magistrate Ramban Kusoom Lata Pandita, Sub Judge (JMIC) Batote Ajay Kumar Gupta and Munsiff Ramban Yahya Firdous. Many cases were settled by way of mediation, negotiation and conciliation. Later, the legal aid clinic was also inaugurated .
In the second session, a Colloquia was organized for the welfare of Undertrials, wherein various topics like ‘Domestic Violence Act’, Legal rights of Women, Legal rights of persons belonging to transgender community and for street children were deliberated upon. Both Bar Presidents Ramban and Banihal actively participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Bala Jyoti focused on the legal rights of downtrodden persons in the society. She apprised the audience about legal aid schemes, rights of women corresponding duties, legal rights of street children and of undertrials.
She also stressed upon the judicial, police officers and advocates to be more sensitive towards while dealing with issues of undertrials and children belonging to marginalized section of the society.
On the occasion, Social Welfare Officer, Medical Officers Banihal, Public Prosecutor Ghulam Nabi Manhas, social workers were present and deliberated upon the various topics. The entire proceedings were compered by Kusoom Lata Pandita, Chief Judicial Magistrate, Ramban and vote of thanks were presented by Munsiff Banihal Pawan Kumar Sharma.
