J&K working on comprehensive return policy for KPs: Bhalla | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU Mar 15: Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla today said that government is working on a comprehensive return policy of Kashmiri Pandit migrants. He said 4440 Pandit families have applied under this policy so far. \He said that state government has submitted a comprehensive one time settlement package to the centre for funding. Replying to the discussion of demand for grants of the departments under his charge, Minister said that to create confidence among the community to return to Kashmir, government advertised 3000 vacancies out of which selection were made on 1790 and out of which 1179 candidates have joined their postings in the valley at different locations. He said that transit accommodations have been set up at many places in the valley, out of which allotments have been made in respect of 1277 families and 570 have even taken possession of the same. He said free transport service is being provided to the members of the community to visit valley at the times of festivals and holidays. He thanked the Muslim neighbours for instilling confidence among their Pandit brethren for their return to valley. Minister said 38119 families has been registered with the Government as migrant families comprising 1.42 lakh souls while as 22,000 families stand unregistered and 20,871 families have been categorized as non-relief families. He said at present 5000 families are living in various camps which are being provided assistance by 32 field offices. He said recently 2112 flats at Jagti were handed over to the community which would be formally handed over to the genuine allottees after March 28. He said that flats have facilities like higher secondary school, two community halls, medical centre, parks, shopping complex etc. On refugees, the Minister said that government has submitted a proposal of Rs 1775 crore to the Centre for one time settlement in respect of refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 and West Pakistani and hoped that the proposal would be considered by the Centre. He said Rs 49 crore have been given as land deficiency compensation among members of the community. Earlier, Harshdev Singh, M. Y. Tarigami, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, Ch. Zulfikar Ali, Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, Rafiq Hussain Khan, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, Ashwani Sharma, Balwant Singh Mankotia, Prof. Rafi Ahmad Mir, Charnajit Singh, Er. Abdul Rashid, Syed Busharat Ahmad Bukhari and Abdul Haq Khan had moved their cut motions which they withdrew after hearing the exhaustive and convincing reply of the Minister.
