J&K CSWB observes international women’s day

JAMMU Mar 15: Minister for PHE Taj Mohi-ud-Din today said that there was no doubt that woman stands well empowered in present day social milieu but she is victim of inferiority complex and needs to come out of this complex and feel dignified, respected and realize the significance of her role in the society.
Minister was addressing an impressive function at Zorawar Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu, organised by J&K State Social Welfare Board in connection with Centenary Celebration of International Women’s Day.
Describing woman as an architect of society and family, Taj highlighted her role in inculcating moral ethics among children. He said today women are patronising several important political, social and religious institutions efficiently and successfully.
“There was a time when women were less exposed to education and she had little knowledge of her rights, she would become easy prey to atrocities of her in-laws and other gender inequalities. But today woman is our President, UPA, Chairperson, a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer and a teacher. She can herself decide her fate,” Taj asserted.
Welcoming women folk to occupy more seats in parliament and Assembly of the State, Taj said that women can make best use of 33 percent reservation even if she desires so. He said that women are also required in Panchayats as Panchs and Sarpanchs, it remains to be seen that how many women participate in forthcoming Panchayat elections.
Minister for health, Sham Lal Sharma in his address called upon one and all to work for securing dignity and honour of women at all costs and also for maintaining her status in the society as well as in family. Earlier, in her welcome address, Chairperson J&K State SSWB, Khemlata Wakhlu raised some important issues affecting women in present circumstances.
Laying stress on women’s empowerment, stopping violence against women and providing equal rights to women in every field, she said everyone has a right to education without discrimination on the basis of gender. She said that everyone has a right to decent and productive work, to just and favourable conditions of work and protection against unemployment.
