Govt concerned over flow of fake currency | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 16 :- Arrest of two tailors from Bihar has stunned the intelligence sleuths. The fake currency racket, the interrogation of the arrested tailors revealed, is being operated from Nepal. The intelligence agencies have sounded an alarm and urged their men in Jammu Kashmir to remain vigilant. According to official sources, the circulation of fake currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination has touched a new high during the past one decade. The sources said about 70% of fake currency notes were being smuggled into Jammu Kashmir. The rest comes from across the border, they said. State police sources while admitting increased circulation of fake currency notes in Jammu Kashmir, said the fake money was being used to lure youth into militancy and to facilitate militant operations. The police have suggested increased vigil along Indo-Nepal border especially Gorakhpur point. The police believe most of the smugglers operate through this point. The banks have also been urged to install gadgets to ascertain authenticity of the currency notes.
