‘Implement 73rd and 74th amendment before Panchayat elections’: Manhas | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, March 16: BJP has strongly resented Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s statement that the functioning of Central University in Jammu was delayed due to so-called demand for a Dogra vice-Chancellor. BJP State President Shamsher Singh Manhas said that as such nobody had demanded that the VC of Central University had to be only a Dogra and by making such divisive statements Omar Abdullah was vitiating the peaceful atmosphere in Jammu. Manhas said that if Omar Abdullah was really sincere about the aspirations of the people of Jammu, he should have first attended to the more urgent issues including implementation of 73rd & 74th amendment before holding Panchayat elections, delimitation of Assembly constituencies, issue of refugees, and unemployment among technocrats, regional discrimination and grievances of low paid employees. Manhas made a special mention of Omar’s highly objectionable statement regarding accession of J&K with Indian Union and said that by saying so he had violated the constitution under which he had taken the oath. Manhas reiterated that BJP stood for strengthening of nationalist forces and abrogation of Article-370. He warned Omar Abdullah against making statements which divide the people on communal lines.
