Code of conduct in election areas only: Govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 16: The government Wednesday clarified that election code of conduct will remain enforced in only those areas where notification for polls has been issued. During the Zero Hour, members of BJP and NPP raised the issue of code of conduct in the Legislative Assembly. The NPP MLA, Harsh Dev Singh asked the government to clarify whether code of conduct has come to in effect in the wake up notification to Panchayat polls or not. “Will it remain till June, or it will remain in effect in those areas only where election notification is issued,” Harsh Dev asked. The BJP MLA, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta said, “How can government enhance the salaries of MLAs during the current session if code of conduct has come into effect? Let government clarify where code of conduct is and where not,” he asked. The Speaker, Mohammad Akbar Lone, asked Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ali Mohammad Sagar to hold a threadbare discussion with the opposition on the issue. However, Sagar clarified that code of conduct will remain in effect in only those areas where election notification is issued. “Once election in any area is over, code of conduct will end in that particular area,” he clarified.
