Demand for special measures to develop walnut crop | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 16: Initiating discussion on Demands for Grants of Agriculture and Horticulture Departments, Rafi Ahmed Mir demanded more incentives to attract youth to take up the agriculture/ horticultural activities for their livelihood. Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan sought special measures to develop walnut crop in a big way in the Valley which he said fetches Rs. 400 to 500 crore foreign exchange. Jagdish Raj Spolia lauded the endeavour of the department for ensuring timely supply of seeds and fertilizers to the farmers in Kathua district. He sought special subsidy on the production of Haldi, Dhania and Adrak. Mohammad Sharief Niaz suggested developing waste land for agriculture and horticulture activities. He sought compensation for the farmers whose crops were affected due to heavy rains in Doda district. Hakim Mohammad Yasin stressed on framing effective housing policy so that agriculture land is not used for residential purpose. Harshdev Singh sought concrete steps to protect agriculture land, which he said is shrinking fast. He demanded timely supply of seeds and fertilizers to the farmers. Abdul Haq Khan urged for a legislation to check mass conversion of agriculture land into commercial/ housing purposes. Charanjit Singh suggested introduction of multi crop pattern to boost farm production. Er. Abdul Rashid stressed on formulation of viable feasible irrigation projects and suggested awareness for crop insurance scheme available for the farmers. Mrs. Indu Pawar demanded adequate chemical fertilizers, timely hybrid seeds, subsidy and power facility to the farmers.
