Gear up for panchayat elections: NC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu , March 16: Provincial President J&K National Conference Rattan Lal Gupta today exhorted party cadre to select sincere and dedicated candidates for the coming panchayat elections, Addresssing a workers meeting of Bishnah Suchetgarh & R.S Pura Assembly constituencies at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan Jammu today, Gupta said the government has decided to hold panchayat elections to decentralize the powers in the absence of elected representatives in the panchayat are being utilized by the bureaucrats therefore the coalition government when it came into power in 2008 promised to the people of the state to decentralize power down below in districts and blocks by invoking three type system in this process, he said. To involve larger participation of the people in these elections the government has decided to hold these elections on non party basis. Gupta further asked the womenfolk to come forward in large numbers to uplift them in the state as the womenfolk constitute 50% of the population of the state and without their active participation in the development activities the purpose to help them will not succeed. In this direction the govt has already given 33% reservation to the womenfolk in panchayat and local bodies. The meeting was attended among others by Laxmi Dutta Provicnial President Women’s Wing Jammu, S.T.S Tony District President, Ch. Rashid Haroon, Chander Mohan Sharma, Kamal Arora, Ramesh Motton, Pardeep Bali, Manveer Kour, Satya Jamwal, Balvinder Singh, Pritam Singh, Janak Raj, Yashpal Bhagat and Ex- Sarpanchs & Panchs etc.
