Relief provided to affected farmers of Kupwara: Bhalla

JAMMU, Mar 17: Jammu and Kashmir government has taken necessary steps to provide relief to affected families of Kupwara district, whose property and crops damaged due to incessant spells of rains in July and August 2010, adding Rs. 50 lakh have been already released for compensation to the affected families besides Rs 2.25 lakh released for providing input subsidy to the affected farmers of the area.
This was stated by the Minister while replying to a question by Abdul Haq Khan in the Legislative Assembly here today. Minister said that Rs 32.14 lakh have been provided as cash assistance in respect of 939 cases who had suffered losses on account of damages to their residential houses.
Minister said funds for restoration of public utilities under various sectors have been also released under CRF, adding that government has submitted Rs 80 crore projects for funding to the centre for permanent restoration measures in flood affected areas of the district. Giving details about the damages caused due to floods in the district, the Minister said that 5500 hectares of agriculture and horticulture land was damaged due to floods affecting crop loss more than 50 percent in the area.
He said 653 residential houses were reported to be damaged. However, after making detailed survey of number of the houses which had suffered losses was found to be more than that and as of now relief has been sanctioned and disbursed in favour of 939 sufferers. He said that loss of public utilities was assessed of Rs 80 crore in the district due to floods.

Gurez snowstorm affected families

Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Raman Bhalla has said 63 snow-storm affected families of Jawdara in Gurez were shifted to Kangan, adding that on the instruction of Chief Minister the District Development Commissioner Bandipora was directed to prepare a plan for their rehabilitation and in this regard Rs 35 lakh under district plan was released during 2009 for purchase of land for their resettlement.
Minister said that proposal for transfer of land, firstly forest land then state and khaichari land identified earlier at various places for rehabilitation of the people of avalanche prone areas of Gurez constituency including Jawdara village did not materialize due to various reasons. He said the Assistant Commissioner Bandipora has been advised to acquire the land, as an alternative measure immediately
