799 students detained during summer unrest: Govt | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 17: Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday said that 799 students were arrested by the police in last year’s summer unrest out of which only three are still detained. Replying to the question of PDP MLA, Abdul Gaffar Sofi, Home Minister in a written reply said, “During the protests in the Valley, 799 students/youths were arrested from April 1, 2010 to February 28, 2011.” However, most of the students have been released and only three are still under detention. The Minister said that an investigation in the cases is going on. “Decision will be taken after the investigation is completed in each individual case depending upon the nature of the offence committed.” On release of aged and ailing political prisoners, the Minister said, “Review of detention cases is a continuous process and is being done in two stages. The first review is being done by the State Advisory Board and the second by the committee of officers headed by Administrative Secretary, Home Department.” “32 PSA detainees have been released till ending February 2011,” he added.
