Pancham stages ‘Baazi’ at Abhinav theatre | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, MARCH, 17, 2011 During day three of the annual drama festival 2011 Pancham Society for Art, Culture and Education staged Anton Chekhov’s acclaimed play ‘Baazi’ at Abhinav theatre here on Thursday. The play, which is originally written by Anton Chekhov, has been translated by Avinash Chander Mishra. Directed by Tapeshwar Dutta, Baazi focuses on human lust for power and authority. Baazi, which was screened as part of Cultural Academy’s Drama Festival 2011, had Tapeshwar Dutta in the lead. Others who acted in the play included Meenakshi, Mahesh Puri, Sanjay Kerni and Anil Kotwal. Music of the play was composed by Surinder Manhas while Pooja Dutta designed costumes for it. Lights were taken care of by Jai Ram and Pankaj Sharma. One of the special features of the play was guest appearance by several budding artists like Manoj Dhamir, Nidhi, Sunil, Ashish Sharma and Kuldip Sharma. As a play Baazi is a telling comment on the rat race that is going on in today’s highly materialistic world. After watching the play, one realises the fallacy of chasing materialistic pleasures. The climax of the play is also befitting as it very sophisticatedly highlights the impact of materialism on human mind and its final consequences.
