| 6 custody killings in 2-yrs | | 5228 stone pelters arrested in 1-yr: Govt | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 17: Jammu and Kashmir government today said that over 5228 stone pelters were arrested during last one year in the Valley of which over 4982 have been released.
Replying to the question of BJP MLA Ashok Khajuria in the Assembly, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Sagar said on behalf of the Chief Minister that 5228 stone pelters were arrested during the last one year in the Valley and 27 in Jammu and Ramban districts.
“The arrests were made between January 1, 2010 till the end of the year and by February 28 this year, 4982 stone pelters were released in the Kashmir Valley and 21 and 6 in Jammu and Ramban districts respectively,” he said. “There are only 264 stone pelters still in the police custody,” he added.
Sagar informed the House that six persons died in Police custody during last two years upto March 15, 2011, adding that appropriate action under law has been taken by the government in this regard against the guilty.
