J&K Police ready for Panchayat polls: IGP | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Mar 17: Stating that police was ready to provide security for holding free and fair Panchayat polls, the Inspector General Police, Kashmir Range, S M Sahai, revealed that there was presence of militants in and some areas of the Valley. IGP said “Over the past some days, militancy incidents have seen increase. After stone pelting has been curbed, militants are trying to show their presence. There is presence of militants in Sopore and some other areas.” “Stone pelting and militancy are not separate. Separatist leaders who were patronizing the stone pelting are behind the bars and that is how we could control the situation,” he added. IGP said that Panchayat polls are meant for empowering people at grass roots level. He maintained that police is ready to provide all assistance for smooth conduct of these polls. As the polls are being held in phased manner, we will be in a better position to provide security,” he added.
