Ram Singh to lead IMF expedition | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, March 17: Sub Inspector with Jammu and Kashmir Police, Ram Singh, an ace mountaineer of J&K has been selected by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi, the apex national body for adventure sports, to lead a mountaineering expedition to Neelkanth Peak in May-June this year. Known as “queen of Garhwal” the beautiful Neelkanth peak is situated at an altitude of 6596 meters, just 10 kms away from the famous Badrinath Shrine. “It is a formidable, difficult and dangerous peak which has defied many attempts on it. It was attempted by Frank Smith in 1937 but all attempts on it failed till 1974 when ITBP expedition led by SP Chamoli was successful,” general secretary of J&K Mountaineering Association, Ram Khajuria told SAN. It may be recalled that Sub Inspector Ram Singh, who is also joint secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, scaled Everest, the highest peak in the world, in 2008 as also Shivling, a technically very challenging Peak, in 2010. Meanwhile, the Mountaineering Association of J&K and president Ibex Adventure Club, Shamsher Singh congratulated Ram Singh on his selection as leader of the prestigious national mountaineering expedition and wished him success.
